An important part of being a grandparent is reading with or telling stories to your Grandchildren.
See Grandma Susie .
But what kind of stories?
1. The Bible is always our top priority. Great stories from the greatest book will interest them if they are told well, or if you read out of your own very special Book that they see you reading out of all the time.
Even a newborn can be read to, and what better sounds are there for a baby to hear than the Word of God?
2. For the young ones, choose picture books with cute, cuddly, lovable pictures. The world will try to get them to love ugly soon enough. But sin produces ugliness; God created innocence and beauty. Let's try not to destroy that childhood innocence.
3. Choose books that will lead to interesting discussions, and be prepared to make those discussions count.
4. Always choose stories where the good guys are the heroes, and the heroes are worth emulating, because it is a child's nature to copy their heroes.
5. Find fascinating books on creation science, and make sure you are as excited about the content as you want them to be.
6. Get them interested in good biographies of real people. They will listen to the stories long before they are old enough to read them, as I have seen and experienced first hand.
For detailed instructions on how to find the right books for your grandchildren see my Helium article: How to Choose Books for Young Children
This is a brief summary of the types of books I want us to look at. Lord willing, I plan on doing a book suggestion every two week if I can. If you have a favorite book that you would like to share with us, please let me know.
Here is an adorable picture book to start discussion: Storm is Coming by Heather Tekavec
Nathanael and Noelia do a video review of Life in the Great Ice Ace
Another video review by N & N covering the subject of purity: Mrs. Rosey Posey and the Fine China Plate
N & N video review: Dinosaurs for Kids by Ken Ham
Another great creation book review by N & N the Creation story for children
Nathanael's all time favourite picture book: Sharing Makes Me Happy
A creation activity book about volcanoes: The Mystery of the Missing Mountain
As Christian Grandparents we do have an important role to play. Lets work together to save our grandchildren.
What can we do as Christian Grandparents?
Christian grandparents can make a difference. All Grandparents are special. Christian Grandparents should be extra special. All Grandparents have a lasting influence on their grandchildren. A Christian grandparent should have a godly influence that lasts for eternity.
I would love to hear from other Christian Parents and Grandparents as we address some very important issues.

ReplyDeleteHI there and blesseings to all,
ReplyDeleteI am new to this site. I am a Christian grandmother, and I can honestly say, that I just read the most amazing Christian Novel, titled The Pelican Trees. It was published by an outreach ministry called Operation Forgiveness. Not only can I not wait to read it to my grandchildren, reading The Pelican Trees has actually caused me to rewrite my entire will!!! Thanks to this book, my will is more geared to all things eternal instead of just leaving material blessings behind. Believe me when I say, this book is a MUST READ!! And the most amazing part is, the name of the author's name of this life changing story is a Grateful Believer. All Christian grandparents need to read this book!
Sounds interesting. I will take a look
